dc.description.abstractPurpose. This paper aims to investigate how ethnic diversity and finance options impact the survival of small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in New Zealand. Design/methodology/approach. This study incorporates survey data and secondary data from the public domain. The surveys were conducted across six sectors of the economy categorised into four main ethnic groups involving six nationalities. This study adopts regression analysis using Probit, Logit and linear probability. Findings. The financing choices of the entrepreneurs were consistent with pecking-order theory. The evidence suggests that information asymmetries are prevalent in New Zealand, as SMEs’ owners perceive significant risk from expanding businesses internationally. There is no relationship between ethnicity bias and the survival of firms. Originality/value. This study provides a contribution to the literature on factors relating to business survival and guides the policymakers to use the benefits of potential factors to increase the survival rate of SMEs.en_EN
dc.description.abstractObjetivo: Este artículo tiene como objetivo investigar cómo la diversidad étnica y las opciones financieras impactan la supervivencia de las pequeñas y medianas empresas (PYME) en Nueva Zelanda. Diseño/metodología/enfoque: Este estudio incorpora datos de encuestas y datos secundarios del dominio público. Las encuestas se realizaron en seis sectores de la economía categorizados en cuatro grupos étnicos principales que involucran seis nacionalidades. Este estudio adopta análisis de regresión utilizando Probit, Logit y probabilidad lineal. Hallazgos: Las opciones de financiación de los empresarios fueron consistentes con la teoría del orden jerárquico. La evidencia sugiere que las asimetrías de información prevalecen en Nueva Zelanda, ya que los propietarios de las PYME perciben un riesgo significativo de expandir sus negocios a nivel internacional. No existe relación entre el sesgo étnico y la supervivencia de las empresas. Originalidad/valor: este estudio proporciona una contribución a la literatura sobre los factores relacionados con la supervivencia empresarial y orienta a los responsables de la formulación de políticas a utilizar los beneficios de los factores potenciales para aumentar la tasa de supervivencia de las PYME.es_ES
