Ítem Acceso Abierto Absorptive capacity and innovation in low-tech companies in emerging economies(Universidad Alberto Hurtado. Facultad de Economía y Negocios, 2018-08-02) Del Carpio, Javier Fernando; Miralles Torner, FrancescInnovation capacity is on the focus of policy makers in emerging economies. Although some studies show the antecedents of innovation capacity for developed economies and high technological industries, scant research outcomes exist for different settings. This study tries to shed some light on the drivers of innovation capacity for low technological companies in emerging economies. Using the absorptive capacity as a driver of technological and non-technological innovation capacity, this study proposes a SEM model to contribute to the literature of innovation capacity including technological and non-technological innovation, and the relationship between them, in low-techonology industries in an emerging economy. A sample of 706 manufacturing companies from Peru is used. The academic contribution of this study states that absorptive capacity favors technological and non-technological innovation capacity and that non-technological innovation affects technological one. Accordingly, managerial contribution suggests improving absorptive capacity levels to internal R&D activities but also to organizational and marketing innovation activities.Ítem Acceso Abierto Mujeres rurales y el uso de teléfonos móviles en el Perú: efecto en el empoderamiento con visión de capital humano(Universidad de Antioquía. Facultad de Ciencias Económicas, 2022-11-03) Franciskovic Ingunza, Jubitza; Hamann Pastorino, Antonieta; Miralles Torner, FrancescThis article proposes to measure the effect of the adoption of mobile technologies on the empowerment of rural women from the perspective of development challenges and using a human capital approach. For this, the model of Mincer (1970) was taken as a reference, analyzing the effect that the adoption of mobile telephony has on the level of income of the adopters. Using the National Household Survey (ENAHO) in Peru, data from the period between 2017 and 2019 were studied to propose an estimate of the effect on income of the adoption of mobile phones by rural women in this country. The results suggest that there is a positive relationship —beyond other additional variables that could influence— between the relationship between the increase in the use of mobile phones and income levels in women in rural Peruvian areas. The article illustrates the use of the Mincerian function to capture the effects of technology on wealth generation. Finally, conclusions and recommendations are presented for policy makers regarding progress towards economic development with a gender approach.
