Ítem Solo Metadatos Types of organizational culture and sustainability in ecotourism businesses in southern Mexico(Universidad ESAN. ESAN Ediciones, 2023-12-11) Medina-Álvarez, Efraín; Sánchez-Medina, Patricia S.Purpose: The purpose of this paper is to contribute to the understanding of the relationship between different types of organizational culture (hierarchical, clan or group, market or rational and adhocratic) and sustainability through three dimensions (economic, environmental and social) in ecotourism businesses in Oaxaca and Chiapas, Mexico. Design/methodology/approach: In this research 80 questionnaires were administered in the form of face-to-face interviews to ecotourism business owners'. Through a discriminant analysis and the theoretical support of the competing values framework (CVF), the prevailing types of culture were identified, and their influence was analysed through a regression analysis. Findings: The results show that ecotourism businesses which are driven by hierarchical culture tend to have a greater focus on economic sustainability, while those businesses with a market or rational culture show a positive and significant influence on environmental sustainability. Likewise, businesses with adhocratic culture achieve sustainability holistically; however, the data reveal that clan or group culture is not associated with social sustainability. Originality/value: This study offers empirical research that explains the relationship between organizational culture and sustainability. Additionally, it contributes to the study of environmental management issues in the ecotourism sector.Ítem Solo Metadatos El gerente y la cultura de las empresas en el Paraguay(Universidad ESAN. ESAN Ediciones, 1992-09-30) García de Benavides, ConsueloIt gives an approach about management, its styles and the culture of Latin American companies – topics dealt with sparsely and marginally – from Paraguay’s case which country is unique to the rest of the continent. The basic hypothesis is that the social system significantly influences the companies and those who work in it, shaping a style of management and culture typical of those companies and with which their identity is formed. The research, exploratory, was conducted based on three observation elements: in-depth interview, opinion interview and Paraguayan history. It was possible to prove the validity of the theoretical model developed and it was found that the culture of the company is the result of social, economic, political and cultural development and the predominant archetypal dynamics in society and not the simple statement of values and beliefs divorced from the conditions that create the forms of organization. Paraguayan companies were also found to be characterized by traditional management styles and paternalism; their managers believe that managing means applying classic management models, which prevents them from generating their own models that take advantage of the potentials of society and culture.Ítem Solo Metadatos Simplificación administrativa municipal ¿imposición o iniciativa propia?(Universidad ESAN. ESAN Ediciones, 2006-12-30) Castillo Mendives, ÁngelaIn 2006, thanks to an international cooperation project, an administrative simplification process was implemented in a Peruvian province municipality to evaluate and modify the stages for the issuance of operation permits. As this initiative was organized by the cooperating institution, access to information was not complete and this resulted in overlapped efforts, additional time investment, changes in the budget and, above all, some inaccuracies in the expected results, which were noticed at the end of the consultation process by the municipality’s own staff. This case will demonstrate the importance of taking into account the points of view of an organization’s members during the decision-making process, as this is the key to success in any change initiative.Ítem Solo Metadatos Persona ética y organización: hacia un nuevo paradigma organizacional(Universidad ESAN. ESAN Ediciones, 2005-12-30) Rodríguez, Alfredo; Aguilera, Juan CarlosIn many corporations, the importance of ethics does not go further than just good intentions. Philosopher Josef Pieper warned about this situation when he wrote about prudence, a virtue that is at the basis of outstanding management and thus, also of company ethics and corporate social responsibility, an issue included in the problem as there are many ways to understand its significance. However, before any consideration on the importance of company–social relationships or on the values and moral actions of organizations, we must bear in mind that the type of corporation depends on the type of individual we represent in our minds. Without an anthropological vision it is not possible to ascertain the actions of people in the corporation or their attitudes towards its goals. Our work will try to contribute a proposal in which the corporation is explained and organized from the point of view of the people.Ítem Solo Metadatos La cultura en las organizaciones: un fenómeno central en el saber administrativo(Universidad ESAN. ESAN Ediciones, 2009-06-30) Podestá, PaolaThis article is the result of empirical and bibliographical research processes about organizational culture. It relates some relevant aspects that, from the traditional perspective under which this concept has been understood, may be contrasted with more critical ones, such as that proposed by the Canadian school to which some of the authors researched belong. Likewise, this article may be considered a complement to one previously published by the author, also mentioned in the text.
