ESAN Ediciones, 2005-12-30) Jáuregui, Kety; Centeno, Adolfo; Solano, DavidMajor greenfield mining projects are usually surrounded by conflict between the mining company and neighboring communities caused as much by the operator’s mistakes as by anti-mining coalitions and other organized groups rallied around sustainable development issues. For four years while preparation work was underway the mining company put into practice several strategies aimed at addressing claims, including participatory workshops all the way to hiring anexpatriate professional expert charged with addressing environmental issues. A few months before the beginning of mine operations however tension peaked. A multi-sector technical commission was set up including government, residents and company representatives. ESAN Ediciones, 2005-12-30) Solano, DavidCorporate Social Responsibility has caught the attention of the business community worldwide because consumer and capital markets now champion or punish a company for its relationship with its environment. But this approach is still new and has several defects: it’s reactive, excessively focused on mass media, it’s not specialized, it confuses Public Relations with Social Responsibility, etc. This shows not only little knowledge of the basic concepts but also of the main reason underlying any Social Responsibility process: a sustainable improvement in the relationship with the population as a foundation for sustainable development. In order to achieve this it is necessary to have clear objectives, an clear definition of the target audience, and well designed action plans. Only then will we be able to assess the success or failure of our intervention.Ítem Solo Metadatos Una misión educativa(Universidad ESAN. ESAN Ediciones, 2005-12-30) Paladino, Marcelo; Debeljuh, Patricia; Del Bosco, PaolaThe various scandals that have shaken the corporate world have shown the need to analyze once again the ethic foundations of the corporation. It is not enough to issue a simple negative judgment; we must learn from failure and reflect on its causes. Why didn’t these companies fulfill theirmissions? What happened to their fundamental values? What happened to the personal convictionsof their general managers, with their vision of the future, with their contributions for the country and the community? Experience shows that it is not enough to merely propose worthy goals, guiding values or policies in favor of the environment and the community. It is necessary that all these propositions originate in the personal convictions of each individual, so that each actionwill have a distinctive, personal mark. Integrity must be found in the center of each individual and corporation. This paper presents integrity as a superior concept amongst the values and virtues which are normally mentioned; it implies that management must adopt the enabling attitudes andabilities they need to carry out their work properly.Ítem Solo Metadatos Integración de la ética en la gestión de las personas y los medios para lograr la sostenibilidad del cambio(Universidad ESAN. ESAN Ediciones, 2005-12-30) Pou Munt, GuillermoEthics is a key concept in management, yet it’s meaning is reduced to signify just good will. Ethics must be an important part of management, as companies should take actions based on objective and conclusive principles. Activities related to ethics should be included in all areas of the company. This is an important omission not only because decisions and actions must be guided by sound and objective principles but also because of the multiple benefits deriving from sustained and consistent work aimed at including ethics as a field of management activities and which therefore deserves management’s time and aimed at including ethics in all areas of people management within organizations. This paper will address elements and criteria on how to include ethics in company management from a general perspective and how this can add social value to communities.
