    Brechas en la educación superior en turismo en el Perú

    The growth of tourism in the world and in particular in Peru has made of this area an emerging productive activity with a lot of potential for development. Tourism is an economic activity which encourages foreign currency exchange as well as new employment opportunities. The objective of this article is to know whether or not there exist any gap between the formative offer in this area and the requirements of the labour market related to it. The research was conducted in two parts. The first one makes a literature review from secondary sources which found out there are limited research for the Peruvian case. The second one is an exploratory qualitative research which conducted semi-structured interviews with 20 experts from the public, private and academic sectors. The analysis and interpretation of the interviews' discourses were made from a deconstructive approach. The study concludes in Peru there is in fact a gap between higher education in tourism and the requirements of the labour market related to it.

    Diagnóstico de la educación técnica en Perú: alcances para el desarrollo de programas en gestión

    The main objective of this article is to know the current situation of technical higher education in Peru, in particular in management programs. To do this, using secondary sources and in-depth interviews with experts, an exploratory work was carried out that consisted of analyzing from the point of view of demand, where the technical training needs that the market requires were observed; as well as, an analysis from the point of view of the offer, where the development and investment opportunities were observed, in particular of the private offer, to cover the gap of unsatisfied needs of the employers.

    Responsabilidad social corporativa y reputación corporativa en el sector financiero de países en desarrollo

    The article proposes a theoretical model that relates corporate social responsibility and corporate reputation in order to hypothesizing influence on investor confidence by studying and usinig cases of financial firms in Peru. the case study method is used to analyze four Peruvian banks accounting for 25% of all participants of the banking system in Peru and 80% in the participation of three financial indicators: % credits, % deposits and % Patrimony. Peruvian banking companies have improved their reputation for social responsibility actions. This improved reputation has been correlated with a strengthening of the value of the company. Furthermore, analysis of each case, framed in CSR plans generates seven propositions classified in three relationships (CSR and investor confidence, CSR and corporate reputation and corporate reputation and investor confidence). In future studies, we intend to extend this analysis with large samples of Peruvian companies have developed CSR practices. The novelty of this work is twofold. The literature has analyzed the concepts of CSR and RC isolation. After a thorough review a model that relates the two concepts is proposed. Second, the model is used to hypothesize CSR and CR relationship in financial sector companies in developing countries. The research on this topic has been conducted mainly in production companies and developed countries.

    Instrument selection for a study of sub cultural differences in Peru

    The interest and appreciation of the differences in cultural values between sub groups within countries is becoming relevant for Latin America due to rising urbanization, social tension and the effects of foreign investments and industrialization. However, few studies have sought to differentiate sub cultural values within Latin American countries, with industry and business academia largely relying on studies that use national measures based on mean scores. This paper, through reviewing the extant cross cultural business literature and Peru’s social history, determines the factors necessary for high quality cross cultural research and the issues will be required to be addressed when selecting or developing a suitable research instrument for sub-cultural studies within a nation state. These issues include defining the sub cultures, instrument sensitivity within a national cultural emic, responsiveness to subject’s response styles and an ability to measure the dimensional constructs appropriately.

    Analyzing technological innovation in low and medium-low tech peruvian manufacturing companies

    Greater attention should be given to low- and medium-low- tech companies in emerging countries because they contribute a significant share of GDP and employment in their economies. However, innovation practices of these companies have not taken yet the attention of innovation scholars. This article proposes a model to study how absorptive capacity, perceived impact of information sources and expenditure in acquisition of technology are associated with technological innovation practices in Peruvian low- and medium-low-tech manufacturing companies. A sample of 856 manufacturing companies of low- and medium-low- tech was obtained from the first National Survey of Innovation in the Manufacturing Industry carried out in 2012. A SEM model is proposed and has been analyzed using a partial least squares approach. Our study reveals that absorptive capacity is associated to improve technological innovation, that perceived impact of information sources are important for absorptive capacity and that greater importance should be given to the acquisition of technology: machinery, hardware and software.

    CSR serves to compete in the sport industry? An exploratory research in the football sector in Peru

    Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is a concept used by firms to obtain competitiveness. Although the focus of academic research has been on identifying the link between financial and social performance, the causal evidence of this relationship remains unclear. Our research attempts to fill this gap by validating hypotheses indicating that the effect of CSR on business competitiveness requires integrating other variables. The literature review shows limited research conducted on CSR and professional sports in emerging countries. Our article fills these gaps by investigating the effect of CSR on competitiveness of football teams. Our results will expand the applicability of CSR to other organizations, while at the same time offering recommendations to a sector with economic and sociological global repercussions.

    Business-community relationships for extractive industries: a case study in Peru

    Natural resource-based economies have long relied on foreign demand to fuel their growth. For instance, the extractive sectors in Peru have experienced a rapid expansion, driven by a rising demand for commodities. Alongside economic growth, extractive operations have triggered social and environmental concerns among the various stakeholders, thus resulting in either social conflict or a deterioration of the relationship between companies in the extractive industries and local communities. In this context, the purpose of this paper is to understand the relationships between companies in the extractive industries and rural families. This research uses the case-study method. The findings show that a trustful relationship is supported by a beneficiary-society approach that builds upon philanthropic and ethical types of relationships. Unlike the type of relationship based on economic or legal interests, a trust-based relationship offers avenues for managing social conflict that have yet to be explored.

    The career advancement challenge faced by female executives in Peruvian organisations

    The percentage of women in Peru's workforce overall has been growing at a steady rate, but there are still few women are seen in executive positions. This qualitative study describes the challenges in women's professional career advancement in a country in which the cultural pattern of business is dominated by men and where specific roles have been assigned to women. In-depth interviews were conducted with 24 professionals, 11 women and 13 men. The interviews were analysed using qualitative data analysis software. The results show that family responsibilities were the main challenge for female executives' career advancement. Moreover, family responsibilities were linked to other challenges, such as physical mobility, educational attainment, professional experience and informal networks. Family responsibilities can be considered a transcultural challenge to the career advancement of female executives. Finally, the study shows that a country's culture is an important challenge to career advancement, as in the Peruvian context where women are still considered responsible for attending to the family and are assigned a fundamental role in raising the children.

    Absorptive capacity and innovation in low-tech companies in emerging economies

    Innovation capacity is on the focus of policy makers in emerging economies. Although some studies show the antecedents of innovation capacity for developed economies and high technological industries, scant research outcomes exist for different settings. This study tries to shed some light on the drivers of innovation capacity for low technological companies in emerging economies. Using the absorptive capacity as a driver of technological and non-technological innovation capacity, this study proposes a SEM model to contribute to the literature of innovation capacity including technological and non-technological innovation, and the relationship between them, in low-techonology industries in an emerging economy. A sample of 706 manufacturing companies from Peru is used. The academic contribution of this study states that absorptive capacity favors technological and non-technological innovation capacity and that non-technological innovation affects technological one. Accordingly, managerial contribution suggests improving absorptive capacity levels to internal R&D activities but also to organizational and marketing innovation activities.

    El contrato psicológico, el desempeño y la satisfacción en empleados de organizaciones públicas y privadas de Lima

    Theorists and researchers have agreed that the psychological contract is a process that refers to reciprocal and implicit obligations between the employee and the employer, and goes beyond explicit and / or formal contracts. This situation, which remained stable before the 1990s, is becoming more important in the present times, due to sudden changes in the modality of jobs in the current organizations. For that reason, the objective of the present study is to know the current state of the psychological contract and its relationship with performance and satisfaction in 303 employees of the public and private sector of Lima. The results show that there is a significant and positive correlation between psychological contract, performance and satisfaction. In the meantime, there are differences between the obligations of the organization according to whether public or private, impacting more on private organizations; happening in the same way with job satisfaction. Similar differences were found among study variables according to gender, marital status, occupational status, wages and place of residence; however the results are different when variables such as age, years of service in the position and seniority in the organization are analyzed.
